Update Sites Disabled was created by Laurie
Hi there!

I don't understand how several update sites within the extensions update component repeatedly get disabled.

Of course, there's a warning given.

Any advice on this please?

Thanks,
Laurie.

I also don't "understand" how some auto-updatable extensions get clobbered, either. If you really want to know the answer, the best place is to enquire of the developer of the extension you're looking to update.

Sometimes, some extension developers don't handle the "autoupdate" XML stuff properly. If you're asking what I mean by the term "autoupdater", there's a hint as to whether a Joomla extension employs the technique when you look at an extension's details in the JED:

How do developers create the "autoupdate" feature? See Creating a simple module/Adding Auto Update .

But, as I said, I don't know why these things breakdown. My guess is that something is amiss at the developer's update server site. Sometimes it's possible to work around the autoupgrade failure by going directly to the developer's website and download the latest version from there (or use the "Install from Web" feature in J! 3.x) but it's still a mystery. Some products "autoupdate" and some don't.

Thanks for the reply Michael.

Here's what I do:

After updating the advised extensions I go to Update Sites and enable all extension sites.

Then I go back to Update and click Find Updates.

If any new updates appear from the previously disabled extension sites I update them.

Not a very reliable system but the best I can find.

I wonder if some developers disable something so as to cut down on every Joomla site that uses their extension, querying their site every time the user logs in to the backend. I can only guess this would cut down the bandwidth usage a bit.

Hardly ethical!
