I'm working on a site where the journalist publishes press releases and also publishes them again as articles.
He doesn't do it very well in that he simply copies and pastes the press release with all the stuff relevant to the newspaper editor such as the media contact info. He also uses small, optimized images suited to the web article, in the press release, rather than using a download link to the high resolution image.
I need to straighten him out a bit.
He shouldn't be double publishing for SEO reasons.
I've never used the canonical (spelling?) tag and have no idea of how to implement it and whether it's useful here.
I think he should put a limit of say a month on the publishing time of the press release version and put the canonical tag on the article version.
Is that how it works, and if so, how do I implement it?
